LM STUDIO STORAGE GUIDE

LM Studio Disk Space on Windows

LM Studio makes it easy to experiment with local models, and that often means keeping several large model files on disk. ModelSpace gives you a focused view of those files alongside the rest of your local AI storage.

Understand how much space your local models use

ModelSpace checks the common LM Studio model location on Windows and can also scan any custom folder you add. After a scan, the overview shows total AI model storage, the largest discovered model file, and storage grouped by source application.

This lets you compare LM Studio model storage with other tools such as Ollama, Hugging Face, Jan, and ComfyUI without manually browsing several directories.

See the individual model files

The Models view lists discovered model names, sources, sizes, and file locations. Search makes it easier to narrow the list when you have many models installed.

If you are unsure about a file, use Show to open its location in Windows before making a cleanup decision.

Check whether another app stores the same model data

Using LM Studio together with other local AI tools can produce multiple copies of the same underlying model data. ModelSpace verifies exact duplicate files using SHA-256 and reports duplicate storage separately.

Keep control: ModelSpace does not assume one copy is unnecessary. You decide which file belongs to the workflow you want to keep.
