Find Duplicate AI Models on Windows
Running several local AI tools can leave model files spread across multiple folders. ModelSpace helps you identify exact duplicate model files and understand how much disk space those verified copies use.
Why duplicate AI models are hard to notice
Local AI applications organize models differently. Ollama, LM Studio, Hugging Face tools, Jan, ComfyUI, and custom workflows can all store model files in separate places. A model can therefore occupy storage in more than one folder even when the filenames are not identical.
ModelSpace focuses on the file content instead of relying only on filenames. It scans selected locations, groups possible matches by size, and then uses SHA-256 to verify whether files are exactly the same byte for byte.
Exact duplicate detection, not a filename guess
Two files with similar names are not automatically duplicates, and two files with different names can still contain identical data. ModelSpace only reports an exact duplicate group after content verification.
See duplicate storage across AI apps
The ModelSpace overview includes exact duplicate space and cross-app duplicate information. This gives you a faster way to understand whether duplicate model files are concentrated inside one tool or spread across several local AI applications.
A safer duplicate cleanup process
- Select the AI model locations you want to scan.
- Run Scan now and wait for the local analysis to finish.
- Open Exact duplicates and review every verified group.
- Use Show to confirm the file location when needed.
- Delete only the copy you no longer need; ModelSpace moves it to the Windows Recycle Bin.
Common questions
How does ModelSpace confirm a duplicate?
It verifies exact file content using SHA-256 after narrowing candidates by file size.
Does the app delete all duplicate copies automatically?
No. ModelSpace is review-first and deletion only happens after the user chooses a file and confirms.
Can it detect duplicates across different AI tools?
Yes. Selected model locations from supported tools and custom folders can be analyzed together.
